Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Re: Hitch-Hiking Stories And Other Reports From The Road

I used to hitch quite often back in the early eighties.

10-15-83, left Jersey at noon for that night show in Hartford, conn. Had no ticket, barley enough money for one and no way home.

Distance and traffic (Not to mention Conn police, who hated deadheads) would have made this a not so sure ontime arrival if I left by car.

Anyway, to make a long story short. Through luck and some quick pickup and drop offs. I made the city, got a ticket, got dosed, secured a ride back to Jersey at set break, then caught the Saint Stephen in the second set.

Needless to say, this was a miracle tripp!

On a side note - as stated by many, it is not always so glamerous and can be very dangerous. Especially nowdays!
